Senior Engineering Manager, AI-Native R&D

Nerdio is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a growing AI-native R&D team of 10+ engineers in the Netherlands. This dual-track role combines people management with hands-on coding, architecture, and technical execution, requiring strong C#/.NET and cloud experience plus hands-on use of AI coding agents and agentic frameworks.

What you'll do

Lead and mentor the team, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
Run effective 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations.
Set clear expectations, provide timely feedback, recognize strong contributions, and address performance or team-health concerns.
Hire, onboard, and develop engineers.
Create an inclusive, psychologically safe team environment.
Balance people leadership and hands-on engineering.
Own R&D initiatives end to end from specification to production readiness and handoff.
Build with AI in the loop using AI coding assistants, LLM APIs, coding agents, and agentic frameworks.
Turn vague needs into executable specifications with scope, assumptions, constraints, acceptance criteria, and evaluation measures.
Develop the team’s AI engineering capabilities.
Set and uphold a high engineering bar for architecture, clean code, code review, automated testing, secure development, documentation, and production readiness.
Make sound architectural decisions across distributed services, APIs, data flows, agent orchestration, and cloud infrastructure.
Measure and improve the workflow by creating feedback loops and turning lessons into repeatable team standards.
Partner across functions with Product Management, Architecture, Security, and engineering stakeholders.
