Inner Circle is hiring a Backend Engineer in Amsterdam to help migrate their dating app backend from a PHP monolith to Kotlin services. The role involves building scalable backend features, working with AI and agentic engineering tools, and ensuring code quality. Requires 3+ years of backend experience and proficiency in a typed backend language.

What you'll do

Build and ship features that matter to members
Deliver backend features that improve matchmaking, engagement and retention
Build new Kotlin services and help extract functionality from the PHP monolith step by step
Use AI and agentic tools such as Claude Code in daily work
Write clean, testable code with automated tests
Keep pull requests small, follow secure coding practices
Stay responsible for code once it runs in production
Make pragmatic trade-offs
Reason through problems and ship solutions that are good enough
