Senior Backend Engineer - Operator Team

Fastned is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for its Operator team to build and evolve the Revolt Admin platform used to operate its fast-charging network. The role requires 7+ years of backend experience with Kotlin/Java, microservices, AWS, Docker/Kubernetes, and Kafka, plus an AI-first mindset. You will work hybrid in Amsterdam and help scale a reliable charging network across Europe.

What you'll do

Designing, developing, testing and reviewing reusable, maintainable and scalable code for Fastned's charging platform and infrastructure
Delivering core charging milestones: migration from OCPP 1.6 to OCPP 2.x, Autocharge and Plug & Charge, and shift to advanced maintenance using granular data and ML/AI modelling
Working AI-first: using AI-augmented engineering (Claude Code, agentic workflows and AI tooling) as a natural part of design, build, test and review
Overseeing technical development from ideation to deployment, and taking operational responsibility for what you build (monitoring, alerting, incident analysis)
Helping improve engineering methodologies and best practices, and mentoring others as a tech lead in the Charging team
