Clockworks, a Rotterdam-based AI specialist, is seeking an experienced Back-end & Platform Engineer to design and build the core of its proprietary AI platform. The role involves developing scalable back-end services in Python, managing cloud and containerized infrastructure, and contributing to full-stack development. Requires at least 4 years of back-end experience, strong Python skills, and DevOps expertise with Azure/AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.

What you'll do

Design and detail the technical architecture of new applications within the AI platform
Build new applications from concept to realization, e.g., in data management, annotation, and model training
Consult with stakeholders and translate functional needs into robust and scalable technical designs
Design user-friendly interfaces for AI tools, dashboards, and workflows (e.g., documenting in Figma) in collaboration with colleagues
Develop the core of the AI platform through robust back-end services in Python (FastAPI/Django)
Design and integrate scalable REST/GraphQL APIs to expose solutions
Design and manage performant relational databases (Postgres)
Design and develop robust, scalable cloud architectures (Azure/AWS)
Play a crucial role in the setup and management of containerized workflows (Docker/Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
Actively contribute to the deployment of AI models to both cloud and edge environments, in collaboration with AI Engineers
Contribute to the front-end of modern web apps (using technologies like React and TypeScript) when projects require it
Work closely in a small, technically strong team
Independently make decisions and initiate improvements in code, architecture, and development processes, with a focus on operational excellence
