wiq, a joint venture between Woolworths Group and Quantium, is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to lead the technical design, architecture and deployment of enterprise-grade AI systems on Google Cloud. The role is a hands-on technical leadership position requiring advanced Python and SQL skills, mentoring of data scientists, and partnership with executive commercial leaders.

What you'll do

Lead the design, development, and deployment of resilient, multi-agent AI workflows and pipelines in GCP
Establish standards for model evaluation, experimentation, observability, and responsible AI practices
Track developments across Google, Anthropic, and open-source models to integrate high-impact capabilities
Spend over half your time writing production-grade code, focusing on prompt design, tool use, and cost control
Mentor a team of data scientists to build a culture of technical rigor, curiosity, and continuous learning
Guide the team through complex architectural decisions while fostering autonomy, ownership, and hiring top talent
Partner with commercial leaders to translate complex business requirements into ambitious strategic roadmaps
Communicate ROI, security considerations, and technical trade-offs effectively to non-technical executive stakeholders
