Rosterfy is seeking an Engineering Manager in Melbourne to lead a single engineering team with full-lifecycle domain ownership. This hands-on role requires recent production coding in Laravel (PHP 8+), Next.js and AWS, alongside people management, delivery ownership and quarterly OKR planning.

What you'll do

Pick up real tickets each sprint — features, fixes, spikes and production issues
Perform regular code reviews and act as primary technical consultant for the team
Lead technical discovery and solution design and write ADRs for your domains
Debug and respond to incidents in your domains
Keep current with the codebase and platform direction, including modernisation and refactoring
Directly manage engineers — 1:1s, role expectations, feedback, performance reviews and career development plans
Hire, onboard and retain engineers; build an inclusive, high-trust team culture
Coach engineers across levels and create growth opportunities
Own team domains end to end — SLOs, dashboards, alert response, bug triage and technical debt
Ensure domains stay documented (README, API contracts, runbooks)
Uphold architectural principles and engineering standards
Coordinate with other domain owners and the Shared Kernel on cross-domain changes
Balance feature delivery against domain health and make trade-offs visible
Facilitate team rituals: sprint planning, stand-ups, backlog refinement, estimation, reviews and retrospectives
Lead quarterly OKR planning and translate goals into measurable outcomes
Own delivery and execution of team goals, including monthly reporting
Unblock the team, manage cross-team dependencies and escalate delivery risks
Partner with Product Manager and designer to shape the roadmap
Work with Customer Success on customer impact and escalations
Collaborate with other EMs, Principal Engineer and Platform Engineer on technical direction
Act as escalation point for your domains
Lead continuous improvement as part of the Engineering leadership team
Champion shift-left QA: test strategy, automation, pipeline health, regression control and observability
